Andy Tanenbaum did Amoeba, which is sadly only remembered for being the platform that birthed Python.

That said, always interesting to hear Tanenbaum talk and the dynamic upgrade/checkpointing features sound interesting.

Like Tanenbaum said in his paper, Minix 3 has had a small amount of core developers working on it for a relatively short amount of time.

I was told by Andrew Tanenbaum some time ago that Minix has had this kind of feature for a number of years now.
