Sparge in a sentence as a noun

Apparently "sparge" is a sprinkling - why would home brewers know this?

Everyone's taste is different, of course, but I've had non-sparge beers that I thought were great.

You steep the grains in your brew pot for an hour and then sparge by using an additional pot and a large colander.

If you are brewing less than that, you can get away with steeping in the brew pot, and equipment permitting, sparge using a colander or grain bag.

Sparge in a sentence as a verb

I have several for homebrewing - monitoring mash, sparge, and fermentation temps.

Crush your malt too fine or too coarse, mess up the mash temperatures, and you end with things like a too high or low efficiency, a stuck sparge, or too many fermentable and unfermentable sugars.

I'm curious what it tastes like too!I haven't read the article in depth, but I wonder if like wheat when using large quantities of wheat in mash, if you need to add rice hulls to prevent a stuck sparge, not that, that is a big issue though.

My understanding was that a sparge increased efficiency; are you saying that the sparge results in a different chemical composition?Of course, if you sparge with different temp water that would make a difference, but how is that different from a step mash with no sparge?
