An interesting question: What is the best strategy for a group of mediocre chess players against a grandmaster in simul?

In my peak I drew an IM during a simul on ICC, but probably was only rated 1800-1900.

Preloading would be simul-loading and lag the hell out of your main window.

I'm not talking exhibition games either, like a chess simul, but actual tournament play.

If the GM (or the one providing simul) can see the board then he wouldn't need to track differences, he can simply play according to each board.

Very little of my Twitter usage was following ultra-high-follower accounts, and of those I did follow, most of them ended up simul-posting on Mastodon and/or Bluesky.

In my estimation (I play go), beating Ishida Yoshio at 4 stones in a non-simul game [1] probably requires a player that's at least 4 dan amateur.

(It also seems unlikely coming from Kasparov specifically - he has historically raised quite a fuss, even when on camera, when simul exhibitions were not conducted to his standards.

I haven't watched it yet, but they state in the beginning of Geerling's vid that Plasma Channel (run by the third guy in the video) should be covering this in their own simul-published video.

I agree it probably works better in blindfold play, but it works well in normal simul too (I used it successfully once, though that wasn't against a GM, and I had fairly recently stopped playing competitive chess).

Anyway, this reminds me of an anecdote I read long ago in a Tim Krabbe piece: "A grandmaster once played a 10-board blind simul somewhere.

Every good chess player has this "unconscious mastery" - that is they can play pretty well (2200+) even if drunk, dead tired, 1-min blitz, playing simul, etc etc - in other words without "thinking".

He doesn't say 'simulate' a human brain unless I'm missing it in the summary (cmd-f "simul" has no results) - that would require significantly more capacity than that contained in a brain (think about how much compute it takes to run a VM).
