Mortify in a sentence as a verb

Probably nothing nearly as bad, but bad enough to mortify a regular human.

I'd be curious to see what others think about this question:There are so many articles that preach the wonders of international math education in Asian countries, and just as many that attempt to mortify with the Asian system of rote memorization that kills any creativity or true problem-solving.
