I asked Mikey Dickerson this question during his Q&A session with Tim O'Reilly at Velocity NYC.

I worked with Mikey and I'm damn sure he's not in it for the money, the prestige, or anything else.

I for one am still not convinced about the explanation Pincus gave for how the ads came back for everyone other than Mikey boy.

I saw Mikey Dickerson (in the video) speak to a group of ~200 people last summer about the work that he and his team did on healthcare.gov.

Trademark law would prevent you calling it Mickey Mouse and my guess is that if you ever tried to use the public domain Mikey Mouse, Disney's lawyers would bury you in so much legal paperwork that you'd give up before you got smothered.

I worked with Mikey on healthcare.gov and he's the real deal--wicked smart, but also humble, patient, respectful, grounded, and keenly insightful into how organizations work and how to fix broken ones.

From a talent pool perspective, for every person like Mikey Dickerson (US Digital Services, Healthcare.gov overhaul) you have now 10 people that are barely able to understand what DevOps even stands for as much as 100 acronyms and jargon only applicable to government systems and regulatory measures.

I think Mikey genuinely wants to make a difference and spent a fair amount of time rationalizing and positioning to ensure that when he did make a difference it would have the greatest impact possible and that it would happen on his terms.

It's an area I don't know much about, but the noises made by Mikey Dickerson and his team have gotten me sufficiently inspired to want to learn more and build out my skillset as to eventually help the initiative in any way I can.

Two months later, Mikey had rallied the 20-something contractors into punching through dozens of problems, and had recruited a team of (now-) 30-something engineers from Google, Facebook, YC startups, and other fine places to come in on rotations to keep the momentum going.

No doubt I'm working a fine line here, but a catchy song about "Mikey Mouse on the River" could pretty much hit the factors to ground it in public domain...well, I'd like to think so at least haha.

They are the equivalent of "But Mikey's mom lets him ride his bike without a helmet?!" Are we so naive to think that until the entire country or the entire world decides to implement the same tax that nobody should attempt to make progress?

When healthcare.gov went down, Todd was the one Obama asked to assemble the "tech surge," including Mikey, and he pitched in around the clock to get things working--literally, at multiple points, sleeping in the office overnight when things went awry.

Mikey Dickerson, who is now running the US Digital Service, was previously involved in the Obama for America campaign.
