Most network equipment I've worked with reported throughput with incorrectly labeled kibi/mibi/gibi, and the ISP uses kilo/mega/giga.

I honestly feel mibi and gibibytes per second are the easiest units to rationalise about.

There were two standards (different prefix definitions) - the kibi/mibi/...

Personally I feel the pushback against gibi/mibi/kibi overblown.

I measure my data transmission rates by timing how long it takes to transfer 100 MiB of random noise, so I do end up with mibi rather than mega unless I do extra maths.

Borrow a meme from the “almost SI” prefixes kibi, mebi, gibi etc., and call it a mibi, perhaps?

"mibi", the binary mega, is 1024 * 1024, which is almost never used for data transmission rates given in bits.

Base-2's popularity has nothing to do with 2^10 ~= 10^3, except where it serves hard drive manufacturers to sow uncertainty around the difference between Mibi- and Mega- bytes.
