diagramming

Being a fulltime Linux user, finding a Visio like diagramming tool is hard to find.

If it's to give other developers access, your desktop counterparts (specifically Aqua Data Studio) provide tools you are lacking (code completion, diagramming).

One thing that I've found incredibly useful is diagramming application architectures, starting with applications you work on.

I find whiteboard and or Visio diagramming pretty useful (both high level, and more fine grain).

The same of UML and other formal diagramming systems - you get more expressive power much more directly via a 'domain specific language' in lisp.

I can list a million crappy diagramming apps that are unnatural and annoying enough that it's just easier to draw on paper.

Its like being handed a new CAD program with a new diagramming paradigm (something AutoDesk would never do, by the way, as their users would kill them).

I can explain it very well one-on-one or to a developer but my writing/explaining/diagramming gets a little esoteric for the people at large.

Another diagramming library of interest is JointJS[0].

Lots of emails, lots of shared google-docs, lots of diagramming and flowcharting, the occasional powerpoint or PDF presentation, and the occasional proposal or technical spec.

A lot of our library additions are from fulfilling customer requests and needs (see the change log from 1.4 to 1.5 to get an idea[2]), so if anyone finds functionality particularly lacking in the diagramming libraries they use, I'd love to hear about it.

It's actually more difficult to diagram a process than it is to sit down and implement it in program code, but also the very act of diagramming the process exposes flaws in my understanding which would be much more expensive to fix were I to expose them during the debugging process.
