Unsure in a sentence as an adjective

He did this because he had heard from his > friend, who I had went out for beers with, said that we > were struggling and unsure of what we were doing.

Probably a disturbing the peace ticket, unsure if the soon to be ex-wifey had a restraining order or not at that time.

This as far as I cant tell is not the intended functionality, I am unsure however how this can be fixed easily.
