Saccharide in a sentence as a noun

It depends on the fructose quantity when the saccharide is cut fown. 1-1 fructose-glucose is objectively worse than 3-4, even if it's not much, but objectively better than 4-3.

Isn't carb an abbreviation of carbohydrate, which in turn is a synonym of saccharide? How come fructose is a monosaccharide but not functionally a "carb"?
