Your take on this....I find it hard in this era of epistemology for one to clearly assert an atheistic position. "One major problem is that atheism and agnosticism both deal questions about the existence of gods, but whereas atheism involves what a person does or does not believe, agnosticism involves what a person does or does not know. Belief and knowledge are related but nevertheless separate issues.."
I think I just spent the last 6 or 7 hours reading about various religious perspectives and worldviews, more perspectives on the mind-body problem than I ever thought existed, a few theories on reality and epistemology, a little bit about various perspectives on evolution, and then a ton of political philosophies and how they relate to all of it. This pales only in comparison to that time I spent about 8 hours reading about physics. XD
The "I #!$%@&! love science" page should be re-named "I love #!$%@&! science." My main complaints are that they don't actually understand the epistemology of the scientific process nor the etymology of words. They're also fast turning into a propaganda outfit for all things Establishment and Status Quo. I suppose I shouldn't expect really great things from the Reader's Digest of science. And what can you expect when you need to act like a middle schooler by using profanity in your name to get millions of likes?
Deepak Chopra is a living example of the kind of intellectual & emotional - immaturity & insecurity, that this sort of wish thinking epistemology leads to. When you pretend to know what you don't know - you don't grow. It's a bit sad.
Quote Examples using Epistemology
"Imperial power, the power of the church, or the government, is illusion. It exists solely because we create and observe its reality. We, ourselves, have created this tyranny, and we, ourselves, can tear it down. Singly and together, we have created this unilateral epistemology, this social control, and in doing so, have surrendered ourselves, our integrity, and our very existence to it. Today, we live at the whim of the state. How ironic a twist since the state cannot exist without us. What sort of monster have we complicitly devised which devours our flesh and souls with such impunity" "We are not condemned! We need only question, apply ourselves, and devise another way of looking at government to reverse this multiheaded creature. Bit by bit, we shall defeat the unilateral epistemology we've been taught and change the very nature of government."Anonymous
" Post-Rationalism...approached the problem of scientific knowledge in highly distinctive ways that have much to tell us today. For one, it was uninterested in any sharp division between what is called, in Anglophone philosophy of science, the ‘context of discovery’ and the ‘context of verification’. The former names the contingent historical details that lead to a discovery while the latter details the empirical and rational reasons given for our taking it as true. For post-rationalism, the two are not easily separated, and to do so is to impoverish our sense of the labor of science, our sense of its productive, rather than simply descriptive, capacities. The latter idea is one of the most controversial aspects of, say, Althusser’s epistemology, borrowed more or less from Bachelard. This is the idea that, when working on an object, the scientist as much reproduces that object anew as she passively receives its content. Knee-jerks in the Anglophone context would immediately catch a whiff of relativism here, but this isn’t the case: in producing a new object, the scientist also produces their science as something distinct from common-sense or ideology. But key to this is the notion that such a process is never over; the scientific object is never entirely purified of its empirical or ideological trappings. If it were to be, the labor of science would be over, ideology forever banished."Anonymous

Cyber-neighbourhood is distinct from geo-neighbourhood. We need both.Anonymous
Science, man's new savior. Another example of man trusting their empirical evidence for the benefit of our society. The epistemology of any human is stll a guess that many times has been proven wrong over time. Many scientists along with suppressive and pompous religious leaders thought the world was flat. Is it better to have a narcissistic scientist or religious leader? They the same yet judged differently.Anonymous

At the end of the hour, Mike described himself as a "dialectical empiricist" -- "a what" we said. Thanks for an excellent seminar Mike.

Got an existential/phenomenological/epistemological conundrum I am facing: if a man who is out-of-sync with your reality, yet grasps another, does that mean he is crazy? Who is qualified to arbitrate in such a dispute? An offshot of an interesting conversation tonight at the bar.
