Raptus in a sentence as a noun

Actually reading it, my initial feeling was just - use of the term raptus, but they are both defendants against Staundon - my theory would be Staundon raped Chaumpaigne while she was in his employ, Chaucer offered her employment to get away from Staundon. Otherwise why would the word be used.
