When a new version of iOS comes out, a new method of jailbreaking usually needs to be found.

That's doable without modifying anything, so the legality of hacking consoles or jailbreaking shouldn't be at issue.

It's a mystery to me why, in this day and age, anyone is jailbreaking their iPhone to bypass digital signature checks.

The popularity of jailbreaking forced their hand, because if unlocking became common it would ruin their cozy relationship with the carriers.

The iOS experience - no matter how "polished" it may look - still ranks way farther than even some absurdity like MS-DOS-on-a-phone for as long as Apple continues to pull these sorts of shenanigans while not providing for any way to sideload an app (and no, jailbreaking doesn't count, especially when Apple actively fights against it).

Jailbreaking it and installing it via Cydia would be easier.

Jailbreaking should be allowed, no problem there.
