But I agree that Van Roy and Haridi did a lot of research on functional logic programming back in the 1990s that seems to be ignored here.

Van Roy and Haridi believed that programmers, rather than having to make a boolean decision between the two, should be allowed to work anywhere on the continuum, and they designed the Oz programming language to make that easy to do.

The author doesn't mention it but Concepts, Techniques and Models of Computer Programming by Haridi & Van Roy teaches concurrent logic programming (as part of a tour through a wide variety of programming models, including logic programming, stateful concurrency, and constraint programming).

You might be interested in reading "Teaching Programming with the Kernel Language Approach" by Van Roy and Haridi.
