Apologies for asking a question unrelated to the message of the article, but I'm a bit confused by the use of 'discomfited' in the first sentence.

Sorry if it bothers you that this prompts people to be critical of these tax and seizure laws, but I'd rather know what's going on than be ignorant because reporting it discomfits you.
