It's basically like having a callback API rather than a polling one.

If you don't have a robust API/callback system, I suspect you don't have a product worth anything to most of your target market.

The low-level isn't supposed to be aware of the high-level; you shouldn't have to recompile the library every time you have a new callback to pass to it.

To the contrary -- callbacks are amazingly useful, and amazingly powerful in languages like JavaScript.

The major drawback is that you're writing in Javascript -- and maybe I have been doing something wrong, but any sufficiently complex JS app tends towards callback spaghetti, in my experience.
