If you're sitting back and reading for longer periods, the Boox is fantastic.

At least some of the Boox devices support Play Store, meaning that you can install termux.

Note that Boox does not release the sources for the GPL software they redistribute.

I run any kind of android app on my boox, firefox, wikipedia, claude etc...

I've owned a Kindle Paperwhite and a Boox Note 4+ but I never really got into the habit of reading much on them.

I have Onyx Boox for more technical reading and Tolino for lighter entertainment.

When Amazon started locking it all down last year I bailed on their ecosystem for Kobo’s store, but I use a Boox device.

I am now a happy Boox Go 10.3 + BookFusion user.

Trying out the Boox and Kobo readers I was immediately struck by their leggy and unresponsive UI (and this is saying something, coming from the kindle, which is already pretty laggy).

I have a Boox NA4C and it's ok, nice hardware, but I have noticed the constant phoning home and am annoyed by the GPL issues (not that I expected a Chinese Android device maker to be fulfilling their open source obligations).

Want to follow up for anyone possibly taking ideas from my post (though I've already put in an order on an un-registerable Oasis) -- if I had a bigger budget, the Boox Go 7 (2nd gen) looks like the way to go.

Question to HN: has anyone tried the Onyx Boox series of ereaders sized 9" and over?

So the decision for me is whether to go for a tablet or a e-reader like onyx boox, it seems to be a "few of a kind" if not one of a kind.

At 13 inches it's even better to read large PDFs than my Boox.

If you want Libby on e-paper, sans Kindle, your best bet is to look at the E Paper android tablets (I use Boox) and just install the Libby app.
