The author bemoans the demise of blogging and the rise of decentralization, I remember bemoaning the rise of blogging bringing about the end of Usenet.

You can still do that with a dozen different blogging platforms without having to host in Iran.

There are a lot of blogging or social networking sites that are very popular regions other than the US.

A lot of blogging platforms / search engines are as far from perfect as possible.

Thanks for the feedback, i'm pretty new to blogging and i've found the hardest part is giving the right context to my readers.

I decided to start blogging again (first post) and I put it on hacker news, and other people upvoted it.

First time I see someone blogging with GitHub issues and, surprisingly, looks like it works well.

In theory blogging on github issues could actually be quite convenient.

This is a old argument for the modern practice of blogging.

If it does than it's not exactly static blogging anymore.

Most of the time, there's little thought involved in blogging.

But Google, Facebook, Youtube and many others including "blogging applications" do not offer documents.

The problem is that this age of "you have to play the blogging/social media game to find any relevance in the public conscience" thing has created a functionally infinite supply of articles all saying basically the same thing.

I feel a sense of something approaching a vital "tipping point" as I felt with blogging in the early 00s and Twitter in the late 00s.

I think that a lot of people think they have backups, but they've never restored them, so I thought it would be a good practice if everyone starting thinking in terms of "have we restored" rather than "are we backing up." Of course, there's no question that the thought process started when Jeff Atwood's personal blog was lost, but don't think for a minute that the only way I communicate with him is by blogging...

Blogging was decentralized -- FB, Pinterest, Twitter is a single source controlled by one corporate entity.

Blogging is a good way to blow off steam, but I don't see how this could turn out to be positive for the OP.
