And I agree that frequencies above the threshold of hearing are more important than standard dogma (based on Nyquist theory combined with Pure tone audiometry) allows.

Here in Japan, you get a yearly checkup (for free!) which checks all kinds of things: eyes, ears (audiometry), chest x-ray, abdominal ultrasound, blood test, stool/urine, etc.

I know that in grade school, part of the requirements for joining band, due to the size of my school and overwhelming demand, was passing an audiometry test, where we were evaluated on a few different contexts related to ability to discern detail in audio, such as pitch and volume.
