No that's just programmer masochism. If a tool is easy to use, then I get whatever I needed it for done, and done quickly.

There are probably uglier projects around, but I don't have the creative masochism to think of them.

But then again, masochism is a reasonably common, if not normal, thing.

I'm sure masochism is involved, but the good stuff is just hard, and you have to be willing to be someone's idiot some of the time to learn.

As far as I can tell, I was drawn to Physics out of sheer masochism. In highschool I excelled in history and English without putting any effort in, but had to work on my math and physics to do well.

We are also well aware of "Monday morning madness" too - pre-planning stress for Monday morning is akin to masochism.

Not to mention that, again, in this business if you're a third party developer, either your name is Activision, or you're into masochism. Lose power, lose the platform, and you lose everything that makes you strong.

Tablets for productivity just feel more like a form of masochism if one to use it to write code on even with options out there[1]. If i desperately need to do something right away, sure, but most of the time, my laptop is with me if I also have my tablet.

They aren't willing to participate in pop culture sado-masochism. What Google has unwittingly done is force this unhealthy dynamic on content creators.

Then I realize what a worthless person I'm but self-worthless transforms into the joy of masochism. I overeat, overdrink, stay up late, sleep in, skip out of work, act out, make inappropriate propositions to friends or strangers when inebriated.

It's a small subset of people who can survive in unstructured envs, and an even smaller one that is willing to submit themselves to that masochism. If anything I would surmise that engineers have a higher percentage of that subset, but I don't have any more data than the article's writer to prove that."
