Since 11 Sept, 2001, your government has been working hard to encroach on those rights in the name of security. Help tell them "thanks, but, urm, 'Constitutional rights'?".

Quote Examples using Encroach
1986 Ezra Taft Benson: "In recent years, we have allowed Congress to fund numerous federal agencies. While these agencies may provide some needed services and protection of rights, they also encroach significantly on our constitutional rights. The number of agencies seems to grow continually to regulate and control the lives of millions of citizens. What many fail to realize is that most of these federal agencies are unconstitutional. Why are they unconstitutional? They are unconstitutional because they concentrate the functions of the legislative, executive, and judicial branches under one head. They have, in other words, power to make rulings, enforce rulings, and adjudicate penalties when rulings are violated. They are unconstitutional because they represent an assumption of power not delegated to the executive branch by the people. They are also unconstitutional because the people have no power to recall administrative agency personnel by their vote."Anonymous
"It is important, likewise, that the habits of thinking in a free country should inspire caution in those entrusted with its administration, to confine themselves within their respective constitutional spheres, avoiding in the exercise of the powers of one department to encroach upon another. The spirit of encroachment tends to consolidate the powers of all the departments in one, and thus to create, whatever the form of government, a real despotism. A just estimate of that love of power, and proneness to abuse it, which predominates in the human heart, is sufficient to satisfy us of the truth of this position. The necessity of reciprocal checks in the exercise of political power, by dividing and distributing it into different depositaries, and constituting each the guardian of the public weal against invasions by the others, has been evinced by experiments ancient and modern; some of them in our country and under our own eyes. To preserve them must be as necessary as to institute them. If, in the opinion of the people, the distribution or modification of the constitutional powers be in any particular wrong, let it be corrected by an amendment in the way which the Constitution designates. But let there be no change by usurpation; for though this, in one instance, may be the instrument of good, it is the customary weapon by which free governments are destroyed. The precedent must always greatly overbalance in permanent evil any partial or transient benefit, which the use can at any time yield. Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens. The mere politician, equally with the pious man, ought to respect and to cherish them. A volume could not trace all their connections with private and public felicity. Let it simply be asked: Where is the security for property, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths which are the instruments of investigation in courts of justice ? And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education on minds of peculiar structure, reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle. It is substantially true that virtue or morality is a necessary spring of popular government. The rule, indeed, extends with more or less force to every species of free government. Who that is a sincere friend to it can look with indifference upon attempts to shake the foundation of the fabric?"Anonymous
What's important? Self-ownership. It's the true foundation of liberty. If you don't own your own body, you're not truly free. Teach this to children. "You own yourself" is a powerful message. - Your body belongs to you. - No one may encroach on you. - No one may touch you if you say "no." - Your body is your private property. So many children are abused each day. Will teaching self-ownership end that tragedy? No, not completely. But for a child, knowing that they can say "no" to unwanted touching is a powerful weapon in their safety toolbox.Anonymous
If a dog were your teacher, you might learn things like these: • When someone you love come home, always run and meet them. ... • Always let the feeling of fresh air and the wind against your face to be reason enough for ecstatic happiness. • Bits not when it is enough to growl. • Let others know when they encroach on your territory. • Run, jump and play for a while each day. • Take a nap every now and then, and always stretch before you get up. • Enjoy the attention and was not afraid of other people cross touch • If it is hot outside, pausing occasionally and lie down on your back in the grass • When you're happy, dance around and shake my whole body • No matter how often you get yelled at - not sulking. Run back at once and make up instead. • Enjoy the simple pleasure of a walk • Be loyal. • Pretend never be something you are not. • If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it • When someone is having a bad day - was silent, sit close and offer comfort by just beingAnonymous
When the government protects abortions, when the government demands Christian businesses fund abortifacients against Christian conscience, when the government maintains standing armies and unnecessary foreign invasions, oppressive levels of debt and taxation, 70,000 pages of unread new regulations every year, fiat money and monopoly control over it, massive entitlements built on debt secured by the labor of our children and grand children . . . the list could go on . . . . When the government does these things, it is the job of Christians and of the church to “maintain a prophetic stance” against the civil realm and declare those things as ungodly and tyrannical. To avoid this task, or to condemn others for performing this task, is to be the practical equivalent of the German Evangelicals described above: forcing the church to remain silent while the state continues to encroach on every area of life. And history tells us how far that can go.Anonymous
You want gun control? Buy a ticket to England, China, Russia. obviously you do not belong here in the United States of America. You do not have what it takes. People die every day. Okay, Wife let's pray for** His sexuality** no more bam bam thank you ma'am..lol... Lord bless my husband sexuality and make it in the area of great fulfillment for him .restore what needs to be restored, balance what need to be balanced ,protect us from apathy ,criticism ,disappointment ,busyness, unforgiveness, deafness, or disinterest,I pray that we make time for 1 another communicate our true feelings openly ,and remain sensitive to what each other needs. keep us sexually pure in mind and body and close the door to anything lustful or illicit that seeks to encroach upon us. I pray that we would desire each other and no 1 else show me how to make myself attractive and desirable to him and be the kind of partner he needs. I pray that neither of us will ever be tempted to think about seeking fulfillment elsewhere. I realize that an important part of my ministry to my husband is sexual. help me to never use it as a weapon or a means of manipulation by giving and withholding it for selfish reasons. I commit this area of my life to you ,Lord may it be continually new and alive . make it all that you created it to be. God bless.Anonymous
I am a racist in that as a white anglo saxon I wish to retain my race identity. I am a sexist in that as a male heterosexual I wish to retain the rights that have been given to me. I am a religious nut in that I wish to retain the moral attributes that my religion follows. I am not against other races sexes or religions as long as they do not encroach on my territory. The actions of the government and MPs including the LibDems are eroding my territory. I object! It is quite clear that the unbalanced birth rate and immigration is changing the UK and it will not be the same country I love within the next twenty years. The rich are the ones paying the taxes, or if avoiding tax at least employ others and spend some of their wealth in the community, the poor are the ones taking benefits. If it were not for the rich and those striving to be rich there would be no jobs and we would be unable to pay any benefits or support the community. The retiring head of McDonalds world wide came up from flipping burgers, he succeeded, why? How did Richard Branson succeed, does he spend money in the UK? There are some cheats but in the main they have not created the poor!Anonymous
Where the federal government is given enumerated power, a state cannot legally annul or override that action. However, when the federal government engages in actions in which it does not have the power to do so, especially if that action violates a right retained by the people, especially if that right is specifically enumerated in the Bill of Rights, a state can legally oppose such action. In fact states have an absolute duty to oppose such actions. Everyone should be contacting their state representatives and state senators and demanding that they also pass such a law mandating state protections of the 2nd amendment from federal agencies and authorities. If a federal authority confiscates or tries to infringe on the 2nd amendment, that state should arrest that individual and charge them with a felony.Anonymous
The article below can be a testament to what happens when God's prescription of Truth is replaced by political correctness; where what was once considered to be immoral, slowly begins to encroach in the name of mainstream society, and fellows don't know anymore the distinction between right and wrong. There are certain things which do not allow for ambiguity; and the idea of God and his prescription of Truth, is one of them. So if you find yourself asking why the left hand is not the right one; that's not to say you're being open minded, but rather to say that you may have already strayed. And if you cannot also see or feel the wrath of a God who has been provoked by his subjects in the incidents of: - columbine, Newport etc., then you may have already become part of the problem. So let's honor this victims by going not only after the NRA and the killers etc., but also by staying open to the idea that God may be trying to make a statement.Anonymous
So back in 2009, Obama stood at his podium and made a promise to the American people that if you made under $250,000 a year, he would never cut your pay by increasing your taxes. Not by one penny. Just saw how much may bring home pay will be cut because of the tax increase. Preciate that promise you pathetic moron. And now he wants to enforce some type of Amendment to the 2nd Amendment to control our guns or take away our guns. Well Mr. President, if you come to take mine, you better bring yours.Anonymous
I never know when I'm ridiculously pointing out the obvious. But then, I'm also continually astonished to find out just how many people don't understand things like this. Examine the questions as regards what IS "country", "government", and "patriotism"? Patriotism, as the American ought to rightly understand the notion, means protecting Liberty. Period. The misunderstanding arises when we fail to conceive that there are times when to do so- you must go awry of the government. That said- the "government" is not the "country", and to protest the government, when it wishes to encroach upon Liberty- IS Patriotism. The rest is #!$%.Anonymous
Libertarians are misunderstood as selfish, greedy people whose only purpose is to maximize their own pleasure. Libertarians have a moral compass. We just don't believe in legislating it. Your right to your life, liberty and property is paramount. An individual has a right to live their life as they choose so long as they don't encroach on the rights of someon else. Of course, you can't assault people or defame people, for example. That crosses the boundary of one's rights and another's rights. But just because a particular lifestyle shouldn't be prohibited by legislation doesn't mean it's adviseable and if an individual does choose a particular lifestyle, they, not the taxpayer, should deal with the ramifications of their choices. That's the quintessence of a free society: the balance of freedom and responsibility.Anonymous

The more someone controls your life, the less freedom you have. That may seem like a "duh" statement, but if you ask a liberal how they feel about freedom, you're not going to find many that outwardly abhor it. Yet, if you ask them how much government should control, they will give up large sodas, the choice of what health insurance they are "allowed" to purchase, their guns, which was a built in right to guarantee that the govt. would never encroach beyond the boundaries and become as a dictatorship over the people. Hell, they're even willing to watch their own taxes rise as long as its more for those evil rich people to pay their "fair share." What is fair? Where does the constitution or even the Bible guarantee that life is always fair? Who gets to determine what my fair share is? Why do they get to determine? How much money is too much for me to make? How come most of the people demanding the fair share of the rich's money are the ones living on welfare? Is it fair that there are those that go to work everyday and earn a living while others reap without having sown? To me long term welfare recipients are like kids who refuse to leave their parents basement cause mom n dad pay for everything. But remember when you under their roof they make all the rules. So before we look to the government to solve all of our problems... They've done such a bang up job of that so far.. Just remember, the more someone controls your life the less freedom you have.Anonymous
It's gone on way too long. First Nations people were, literally robbed of lands that served them as original people of Canada. Their children were abducted, in some cases, and raised 3-500 miles away from families to be Catholics. Some of them lost their ability to speak in their own native tongue. When legal or commercial matters encroach upon even the unstable and poor conditions in reserves where people have become despondent and ghettoized, and as a result all of our waters and our childrens health will suffer, not just theirs- they are protesting major issues that could be offensive to every one of us. Please sign and join in an incisive, studied Canadian way, to emand alternative but balanced resolutions for all concerned.Anonymous
If you can join the military at 18 and not drink until you are 21, I believe gun control to be more a common sense issue then taking away your right. Hell, I want a tank, I would ride it everyday and follow all laws and stop to help old ladies cross the road. I'd even give rides for free. I would also like to drive a formula one race car on the freeway hitting 175 or so, if I pass racing school shouldn't I be able too? I would be certified safe to operate that vehicle at those speeds. Gun control isn't about taking away guns or giving Obama or the government the right to take freedoms. In case you haven't noticed, people have been having their freedoms taken away already. Single mothers get treated like whores by Congress, children get treated like #!$% until a war breaks out and they need more bodies, and overall, unless you have the money or connections to get a good lawyer, if you do anything wrong, you are going to be stuck with some free lawyer with a huge case load who doesn't care about you and just wants you to plead out so he can go home for 45 minutes before his next trial. Control is not taking away, it's maintaining a database of automatic weapons to make it easier to run forensic tests on a weapon used in a crime and find out who owned it. It's for something that did not exist at the time of our forefathers, you cannot make an argument about that without saying you do not know what the forefathers would think about this issue. Nobody does. You have a license plate on your car, a license in your wallet. Your social security number follows you everywhere. Take a look at the rights that you really think you have and then look at the common sense behind gun control. You can't say that everyone that uses a gun for a crime is mentally challenged or whatever. I know, the media says the guy has aspergers, I also know that the chances of someone with that diagnosis doing something like that is low. Maybe his doctor sucks, maybe they mixed his medicine. Hell, I went to the Va and they prescribed me something that had worse side effects then curing ability for my symptoms. If you want mental health reform, then make state governments stop attacking "social programs" every time they do a budget. That's the only way that will happen, mental health is not understood or treated correctly. Hasn't been from the onset. Only way to change it is to uproot everything and start over with a consensus for treatment. The chances of that ever happening are zero.Anonymous

When I posted a recent item of dissent with my old paper, The Journal News, I made a comment on the resulting conversation thread that could be misconstrued as a flip dismissal of the journalistic integrity of TJN's editorial decision making. We can discuss and chew on the results of those decisions, but it's very very important for me to clarify that whatever call is made in that newsroom, I know from experience it is done by excellent, dedicated journalists, with a clear and genuine eye on what they believe to be in the public interest and greater good. And I feel for my old colleagues who have to put up with the brutish misbehavior and threats leveled by the more extreme denizens of the gun-world, for whom the word integrity is an uncharted state of being. The problem with the gun control debate is that people on both sides think in terms of black and white. The gun control advocates believe that if guns were better regulated or limited, gun violence would be reduced while the gun rights advocates argue that more guns would lead to less gun violence. The truth is, no matter how armed you are, if somebody intends to kill you, they probably will.

Why is the government seeking to take guns from responsible, law-abiding citizens? What have they done to warrant such actiivty against them by their own government, a government that is supposed to operate with the "consent of the governed?" Maybe, just maybe, if we harshly punished those who commit violent acts in our society, maybe, just maybe that would be a deterrent to the violence. No, it would not have matter in Newtown, Aurora or Tucson as you have mentally ill people killing innocent folks and mentally ill folks likely do not understand the consequences of their actions. So why do we punish law-abiding citizens for the actions of the mentally ill? Where is the logic in that action? Is there an actual leader in America who will stop with the politics and take the necessary to and discussion to look at how we ALL address this issue? The government cannot solve this issue without the support of the people. Are there any actual leaders out there who will stop playing politics with this issue?

Shamefully, this was the cornerstone of the government's response to the court decision today. Repeating the misleading figure of $90-million, the government is continuing its campaign of confusion in an attempt to convince Canadians that First Nations are getting large sums of money and that the government is fulfilling its obligations.
As a point-of-reference, The second amendment was ratified in the bill of rights in 1791, nearly 100-years before the introduction of the semi-automatic weapon. I don't agree with any sort of weapon ban, but certainly more regulation. Our forefathers only had limited foresight.
I pray for this country because if this man pulls a stunt like an executive order/hail mary - if you will - the 2nd Amendment, you will see blood in the streets!
Can someone help me understand how ANY law regulating my constitutional right "....to keep and bear arms" does not infringe upon that right?
“From the hour the Pilgrims landed, to the present day, events, occurrences, and tendencies prove that to insure peace, security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable . . . the very atmosphere of firearms everywhere restrains evil interference – they deserve a place of honor with all that is good.” -- George Washington
To all the "gun enthusiasts" out there who cling fervently to your firearms based on a cherrypicked interpretation of the second amendment, I have one very simply question for you pertaining to you losing your #!$% every time the discussion of gun control comes up after yet another tragedy: How many dead children are your guns worth to you? That is all.
Suwayi lang ni ninyo. You'll have a lot of unhappy people, Cebuanos & tourists alike.
