Doggerel in a sentence as a noun

Haha, I haven't heard that piece of doggerel before.

There’s definitely a shortage of doggerel in this field.

Limericks, doggerel, songs from Shakespare plays...and pay attention to where it seems to stutter or skip, where it doesn't work.

It starts by quoting four quick stanzas of doggerel to briefly set the tone, and then it's right into the meat of its subject matter.

But I guess the youth of today are too busy working 18/7 and learning the latest, hippest Javascript meta-framework to read such outdated doggerel.

My remit also includes writing doggerel, shaggy dog stories, and academic papers.

Good humor tends to fare reasonably well, and considerable allowance is made for attempts which fail to be funny but still show effort - otherwise, I doubt I'd get away with doggerel in rhyming couplets [1] and similar such excesses.

At the risk of being censured for a frivolous, redditlike comment by a new account, I am reminded of a snippet of doggerel by Ogden Nash, and compelled to share it: I think that I shall never see A billboard lovely as a tree Indeed, unless the billboards fall I'll never see a tree at all

Of course you know this bit of doggerel verse, everyone does;...“There must be some way out of here,” said the joker to the thief“There’s too much confusion, I can’t get no reliefBusinessmen, they drink my wine, plowmen dig my earthNone of them along the line know what any of it is worth”“No reason to get excited,” the thief, he kindly spoke“There are many here among us who feel that life is but a jokeBut you and I, we’ve been through that, and this is not our fateSo let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late”All along the watchtower, princes kept the viewWhile all the women came and went, barefoot servants, tooOutside in the distance a wildcat did growlTwo riders were approaching, the wind began to howl...Have you ever heard it with the lines reversed though?...Two riders were approaching, the wind began to howlOutside in the distance a wildcat did growlWhile all the women came and went, barefoot servants, tooAll along the watchtower, princes kept the viewSo let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late”But you and I, we’ve been through that, and this is not our fate“There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke“No reason to get excited,” the thief, he kindly spokeNone of them along the line know what any of it is worth”Businessmen, they drink my wine, plowmen dig my earth“There’s too much confusion, I can’t get no relief“There must be some way out of here,” said the joker to the thief...Now you have to admit, that is not the work of someone who doesn't know what they are doing with language, irrespective of whether or not you personally like it.
